It’s common to see professional clubs change the design of their kits before the start of the upcoming season. Some will experiment with new color schemes that serve as their new away or third kit. In other situations, clubs may take gambles and introduce completely different takes on their home shirt with varying results. For FIFA Ultimate Team™ in FIFA 16, we are introducing new kits for use by the Team of the Week squad in single player.
The person behind the new kits is Emilio
Emilio has designed all his life. Having previously done work for clubs from around the world, including those in Australia, Argentina, Italy and Vietnam, this was his first project for a video game. Although different environments, he approached this the same way he would a professional football club.
Before he could begin designing new kits, Emilio spent some time in FUT looking at the earlier version which he used to help set up a brand identity. Maintaining the black, white and yellow color schemes from previous games, he began creating a dozen preliminary designs that were shared with the EA SPORTS FIFA team for feedback.
From there, he and the team at EA Canada went back and forth improving and finalizing the designs until the final kits were chosen.
The new TOTW home kit incorporates two very subtle shades of black. The color yellow highlights the cuff of the sleeve, v-neck, and shorts opening. Meanwhile, the focus of the TOTW away kit is the multiple-circle pattern around the chest. Building on that, it also features black and yellow striped cuffs and shorts opening, topped off with a solid black neckline.
In designing the goalkeeper kits, Emilio's choice for TOTW follows the real-world trend of ensuring the keeper stands out the most on the pitch. The primary goalkeeper kit is pink with a wave pattern throughout. As for the secondary kit, it is turquoise, featuring a polygonal pattern.
Following months of hard work by Emilio, we cannot wait for fans of FIFA 16 to see the new kits on the pitch. Get your first look at the new designs when you start FUT in FIFA 16.
