BIO:
Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley was born on July 21, 1978, in Kingston, Jamaica to reggae legend Bob Marley and 1976 Miss World, Cindy Breakspeare. Damian was only two years old when his father died, but he explored his musical roots to become one of today’s hottest performers: a respected singer, songwriter, and producer. He is nicknamed “Jr. Gong,” which comes from his father who was known as the “Tuff Gong."
As a teenager, Damian performed with the Shepherds, then worked with his older brother Stephen on his first album, “Mr. Marley,” in 1996. Damian’s commercial breakthrough was the 2004 single “Welcome to Jamrock.” His album by the same name earned two Grammy Awards in 2005.
Q&A
1. Who are you? Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am Damian Marley. I grew up playing football in Jamaica, and most of my brothers play too. I’m a striker. I love scoring goals and winning.
2. How long have you been playing FIFA?
Years! Since maybe 2000.
3. What is your fondest EA SPORTS™ FIFA memory?
My fondest EA Sports memory is actually watching my friends play, and seeing them get at each other and how emotional they get. Throwing down the remotes! A lot of my friends take it like the game is real. I have to keep reminding them that they’re not playing for a trophy. And of course I watch my brother, Stephen, battle people at the studio. I’m always boosting him up. Like for example if somebody else is winning in the match, I always say that he’s doing it on purpose. Just to build their morale.
4. What is your favourite club and/or player?
Barcelona would be my favorite club and my favorite player is Lionel Messi.
5. What is the inspiration behind your FIFA 17 Ultimate Team™ kit design(s)?
It represents our culture, with the Red, Gold and Green.
6. What is your favourite aspect/element of your kit design(s)?
My favorite element is that it’s actually going to be in the game. I’m so thrilled about that. I play ball. I like the kit design. I like how it looks. I play football more than I watch it. The kit design is something I’d actually wear. I would actually wear that on a field playing. So that’s something I’m proud of. It’s not like I just sell out and do a kit I wouldn’t wear personally. NOTE: A very good feature we should have in the game is to have my locks tucked into a backpack. My locks is so long now that when I play if I don’t put it in a backpack I would step on my hair. It gets in the way. THAT WOULD BE DOPE IF THEY CAN WORK THAT INTO THE GAME?!?!
7. Where can people see more of your work?
All my music and videos are on Tidal. The new album Stony Hill drops in October.
